Carer Energy and Income Officer - Community Team (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)
Carers Support West Sussex provides services for and with unpaid carers who look after a relative or friend who could not manage without their support. Our teams provide tailored information, advice and support to help improve carers’ resilience and ensure they are supported to maintain their caring roles.
We are currently offering an exciting new role, working as part of a team, this role is in place to support a specific timebound project to:
Provide carers with information, guidance, and support to maximise income and reduce expenditure for both them and the person they care for through a variety of means (1:1 telephone advice, face-to-face, timed appointments, email) to include:
Work within Carer Hubs, where Carers are in the Community, to provide low-level energy and income maximisation information, in person support and referring into our Carer Benefits Service for Welfare Benefit Reviews and into our partner organisation, Arun & Chichester Citizens Advice (ACCA).
Keep up to date knowledge of and sharing information on general income maximisation and energy support available to improve carer financial outcomes.
Build internal relationships, energy and income knowledge and share good practice and work collaboratively with the wider staff group.

Job Role
• Support Carers of both working and non-working age to maximise their own income and the income of those they are caring for by increasing knowledge and awareness of what financial support is available and improving access to that support. This will include providing information and practical support to carers in the community and booking appointments with internal benefits support and ACCA energy advisors.
• Provide information for staff and service users, such as factsheets and website material on energy welfare and other related energy issues.
• Accurately record all interventions on CSWS Client Record Management System to enable timely and informative reports on the services provided, ensure decisions are evidenced and all actions recorded.
• Use a range of outcome-based tools to evidence your work and as a framework to support carers to create a personal plan to identify and achieve positive change.
• Demonstrate the impact the service has made through Carer Star reviews, surveys, case studies and collating general feedback.
• Work collaboratively with Health, Social Care and Voluntary Sector partners and closely with colleagues to promote the Service and ensure Carers receive timely support.
• Promote the principles of Think Carer across all networks and proactively identify carers and opportunities through partnership working, outreach, community connections and networking, promoting carers as expert partners in care.
• Work within Carer Support West Sussex’s Policies and Procedures, being mindful of confidentiality, data protection, equality and diversity in all areas of work. Follow processes and procedures to ensure that adults and children are safeguarded and the health and safety for staff, volunteers and carers is considered.
