Dementia Action Week from 15th to 19th May 2023 will see partners across West Sussex join forces to provide a range of events to raise awareness of support for people with memory loss or dementia and their family and friend carers.
It’s estimated that 1 in 3 people born today will develop dementia and 1 in 11 people over the age of 65 have dementia in West Sussex alone. Dementia is not a mental illness but caused when the brain is damaged by disease. When the brain is sick, we have problems with our actions, including remembering, speaking, coordinating and sometimes our physical movements. In 2020, it was estimated that 16,650 people have dementia in West Sussex and this figure is estimated to rise to 22,450 people in 2030.
The week will see events that range from dementia-friendly cinema screenings, information gatherings, bowling, drumming, crafts sessions and many more.
If you visit our Dementia Action Week, you will find more details. If you are aware of any events not listed, by all means let us know via email.
To kickstart the week off, we would like to invite you to view our Dementia Disruption Film, called Only One Six.
