Thank you Gloria - Volunteers Week

Our wonderful volunteer Gloria Aguilar and the great work she does for us.

Gloria is an inspiration and force of nature!

Despite her own health issues, nothing is a barrier, including age and Gloria consistently demonstrates commitment, empathy and passion for supporting family and friend carers as well as a huge knowledge and experience of supporting a wide range of family and friends carers.

Gloria has supported our Mental Health Carers Group since 2019 and our Horsham Carers Group since 2022. This is a face-to-face family and friends carers group in Horsham as well as our online carer group supporting someone with mental health issues.

Gloria supports these groups regularly and in addition to this will readily support our Crawley face to face group and our online dementia carer group when asked. Gloria’s dedication in supporting family and friend carers has really shown in our monthly groups.

Gloria is always there and has word of advice and support for any carer attending our peer support groups.

Gloria has also been incredibly supportive to our staff teams and without Gloria’s support it would not be possible to run our groups.

Gloria has also been a volunteer for our Check in and Chat telephone befriending service, supporting isolated family and friend carers with her cheery regular calls. These calls are a lifeline to carers who have no one to talk to from week to week.

Gloria speaks Spanish and when we asked her to help translate a leaflet for refugee and asylum seekers she willingly helped.

Gloria is a huge asset to Carers Support West Sussex and demonstrates the highest standards of volunteering and our staff team feel honoured to work with her. Gloria’s enthusiasm and positivity in supporting carers with their issues and caring roles have been greatly appreciated by all.

If you would like to volunteer with us, please see our available roles here or you can complete the online form at the end of the volunteer web page.
