The bed occupancy sensor consists of a bed pressure pad, which is placed underneath the mattress of the user. It can either be linked to a monitoring centre via a Lifeline Unit to aid independent living, or to a portable pager. Should the user get out of bed and not return by a certain amount of time, an alarm can be raised. The sensor can also be programmed to raise an alert if the user doesn’t go to bed or get up in the morning by a certain time. In addition the sensor can be programmed to switch on lights.
