Jane is the Dementia Team Leader. Here she writes about some of our work with partners to support dementia carers.
This morning I’m meeting with one of our partners, Age UK Horsham, to see how we can work together to support our dementia carers in the Horsham District. We discuss their day services in the towns and villages for people living with dementia and how we might be able to provide support for carers alongside those groups. In the dementia team we link in with a wide range of dementia services including the Alzheimer’s Society, MIND, Guildcare and the local Dementia Alliances’
Today it’s our regular team meeting. We are going to spend time working together on what information will be most useful for dementia carers on our website, and how we can ensure it’s easy to find. We will also look at what we plan to do in our team over the next year and how we intend to make sure we do it! It’s always good to meet with colleagues and catch up on what we’re each doing in our areas and to share news and information.
Kimberley and I are at this event organised by Coastal West Sussex Mind. The mayor opened the event and we’ve had a steady stream of carers and professional colleagues visiting our stand during the first hour. In her opening speech the said ‘ carers who are trying to find their way through the minefield of information have ‘Carers Support’.
Carers stories are, as always both humbling and inspiring. All mention the emotional toll of caring for someone with dementia.
Information is available from Alzheimer’s Society, Library Service, Carers Health Team, Dementia Hub, Tangmere and Arundel Community Association. Thanks to Coastal West Sussex Mind for the opportunity to be here!
